The BMFcast Variety Hour 008 – HBO M-Ass

BJ is back this week so we get his thoughts John Henry and What We Do in the Shadows and then Harlo wants us to know about a new episode of Mythic Quest, the Parks & Recreation special, the interactive Kimmy Schmidt episode on Netflix, the recent Community table read get together and Choose Your Own Adventure offshoots. Chuck’s got words for Ozark, The Mandalorian and Hunters.

Then it’s time to talk HBO Max, the latest streaming service. Harlo tests it out with Criterion’s Police Story and then we’ve got general thoughts about the library itself and how its organized, with lots of random asides along the way. Enjoy!

The BMFcast Variety Hour 007 – Tarantino and the T-Rex

No main movie this week as we’re all being pulled in multiple directions all at once, but we did manage to slap together an episode, for you!

We’ve got thoughts on 2020’s John Henry, Dawn of the Dead, all the nutty versions of Night of the Living Dead, Happy Madison’s latest Netflix venture The Wrong Missy, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the new Amazon series Upload, 2012’s Lockout, Hulu’s The Great, revisionist history in entertainment, Jackie Chan Movies in the Morning, and we wrap up with the season finale of The Last Dance. Then we get schooled on the filmography of Scott Adkins and say goodbye to Fred Willard. Wear a mask ya filthy animals.

BMFcast Extra 147 – The Substitute 2 School’s Out

The Substitute 2: School’s Out (1998) substitutes Treat Williams for Tom Berenger in what might as well be the same film as the original except not as good. Treat’s out to avenge his murdered brother except the film FORGETS TO DO THAT.

The BMFcast Variety Hour 006 – Crime People

Spenser Confidential (2020) is our latest “We all have Netflix so let’s watch this for the podcast” movie. Forget everything you know about Spenser For Hire because this isn’t that. But it is pretty good! Skip to 27 minutes in if you don’t want to hear any spoilers about this recent release.

Once that’s done we’ve got some things to say about other things. Things like BJ’s take on Extraction since he was absent last week. Also, Chuck gives a shout out to the 2009 indie horror film Hunger (available on Amazon Prime). Then we talk about woes searching for things on IMDb, the kindness of Mexicans, David Tennant’s Fright Night, and of course more recaps of The Last Dance. Enjoy!

BMFcast Extra 146 – Replicant

Replicant (2001) is a late stage Jean-Claude Van Damme movie that deserves your time. He plays both a serial killer and his genetic duplicate, the latter of which has been paired up with grumpy detective Michael Rooker to help catch the former. Van Damme fights himself several times, and those aren’t even the craziest scenes in this bonkers actioner directed by Ringo Lam.

The BMFcast Variety Hour 005 – Cat Stats

Extraction (2020) is the latest Netflix movie and is the one thing we all watched this week. If you’re not ready for spoilers from the most recent Chris Hemsworth flick, skip ahead 31 minutes where we have lots more to talk about. Topics include: Booksmart, Apollo 11, The Last Dance, Bullet to the Head, Con Air, Major League, Westworld Season 3, Homeland, more stand-up specials, terrible Netflix box art, cat documentaries, anime and much more. Have fun!

BMFcast Extra 145 – Dolemite is My Name

Dolemite is My Name (2019) is a lot of things. It’s a somewhat loving tribute to Rudy Ray Moore, who as you might know we’ve found to be varying levels of entertaining here on the BMFcast. More importantly though it’s a return to form for Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes, who are just terrific here.

The BMFcast Variety Hour 004 – Garmament Bag

Raw Deal (1986) is the movie we all watched this week as we ease back into our old format a bit (while still working remotely). It’s the forgotten Arnold Schwarzenegger movie that lies in the hidden valley between Commando and Predator. You should see it! It’s on Amazon Prime, check it out.

Other topics this variety hour include why you don’t keep your social security card in your wallet, The Gentlemen, King Arthur copyrights, Beastie Boys Story, The Last Dance, What We Do in the Shadows, Middleditch and Schwartz, shirtless Netflix comedians and Amazon’s broken-ass app.
