Month: April 2018

BMFcast420 – Vanity’s Hot DIVX

The Last Dragon (1985) is why we do this podcast. It’s the tale of a young man from Harlem who gets mixed up with an insane record producer, an equally insane kung fu master, and Vanity. Hijinks ensue, in the best possible way.

After an exhaustive first half, Maki has some quick takes on Ready Player One (2018) and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (2016) and then Chuck plows through The Post (2017), Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), Murder on the Orient Express (2017) and I, Tonya (2017). Enjoy!

BMFcast Extra 073 – King Solomon’s Mines

King Solomon’s Mines (1985) is Cannon’s take on the Indiana Jones films, and by that we mean it’s them ripping off the Indiana Jones films, despite the source material predating Indy by decades. Richard Chamberlain and Sharon Stone search for the titular mines, fighting proto-nazis and cannibals along the way.

BMFcast419 – Primal Force – Flowers For Shakmanon

Primal Force (1999) is our latest monkey movie. Basically, Ron Perlman heads to Shakma Island to battle mutant baboons for reasons. He also doesn’t tell anyone about the mutant baboons for the first third of the movie, also for reasons. Wait until you hear the reason as to why there are mutant baboons on the island!

In the second half it’s new movie chat as Maki talks Isle of Dogs (2018) and Moonlight (2016) and Harlo gets Ready Player One (2018). Then the show ends. Enjoy!

BMFcast Spoilcast 008 – Rampage

Rampage (2018) fit right in with our APEril theme month and so we took a field trip to the theater to make that happen! It’s very loosely based on the classic video game and features The Rock battling giant animals in Chicago, thanks to the dumbest evil plot of all time. Go see it and then come enjoy the spoilcast!

BMFcast Extra 072 – Biggles Adventures in Time

Biggles: Adventures in Time (1986) is a movie about a beloved British hero with an American time travel story bolted onto it. At least the aerial sequences are stunning. Also, Hootkins!

BMFcast418 – Monkeybone – Chris Kattan’s Floppy Neck

Monkeybone (2001) is how we’ve chosen to begin Ape-ril ’18! It’s a huge box office failure with a talented cast and crew that somehow screws it all up. And yet, there are still some moments of goodness in there. Sure it’s bad, but will it be a unanimous 5-bagger?

In the abbreviated second half, Harlo returns to FX’s Atlanta before restarting a journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then things devolve into nothing but terrible Australian accents for the second week in a row. Enjoy!

BMFcast Extra 071 – The Island

The Island (1980) is a Peter Benchley/Michael Caine joint that no one ever talks about. They should talk about it though, because it has the Most Satisfying Ending of All Timeā„¢.
