BMFcast498 – Force Four – Hi-ya Felicia

Force Four (1975) is a movie in the loosest definition of that word. Four karate friends are hired to recover a stolen artifact and beat up the same 10 people over and over and over in between driving montages. Also, WARHAWK TANZANIA!

In the second half we’ve got thoughts on Parasite, Uncut Gems, the 1997 miniseries version of The Shining, Spring Breakers, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Superman: Red Son, Breaking Bad, and HBO’s McMillions. Enjoy!

BMFcast497 – Blacula – Sneak Attackula

Blacula (1972) is an earnest effort to make a classic vampire film in the modern era with an African-American cast. William Marshall lends considerable gravitas to the lead character. It’s not just a quick cash grab and we all found it to be rather enjoyable.

In the second half it’s time to talk about movies like Birds of Prey, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Side Effects, The Shining, Doctor Sleep and The Witch. Then it’s time to talk about hit TV shows like Ramy, Mystic Quest, The Good Place, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The New Pope. Enjoy!

BMFcast496 – Mean Johnny Barrows – Destroy Yourself

Mean Johnny Barrows (1975) is Fred Williamson’s directorial debut. It’s the tale of unfortunate soul Johnny Barrows (played by Williamson) and how he’s eventually lured into becoming a mafia hit man. Then things really go wrong for Johnny.

In the second half we’ve got some thoughts on Lucy in the Sky, The Dead Don’t Die, the end of The Good Place, and more on Netflix’s Sabrina show. Enjoy!

BMFcast495 – The Candy Tangerine Man – Pimpultimate

The Candy Tangerine Man (1975) kicks off our 8th annual Blaxploitation History Month! The Black Baron is both the best and worst pimp in southern California, battling invaders on all fronts while also keeping a family in the suburbs!

In the second half we get caught up on 2019 movies with Jojo Rabbit, Doctor Sleep, Terminator: Dark Fate and The Poison Rose. BJ checks in with The Raid 2 and then we get caught up on TV talk with The Outsider, Watchmen, His Dark Materials, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Little America and The Mandalorian . Also, Chuck wants you to watch 1976’s J.D.’s Revenge. Enjoy!

BMFcast456 – Hit Man – Bloods MacKenzie

Hit Man (1972) is the Blaxploitation version of the book Get Carter is based on. Bernie Casey wants to know who killed his brother, and they (surprisingly) don’t want him to know. Pam Grier is also here.

In the second half, we’ve got Alita Battle Angel thoughts, along with Solo: A Star Wars Story, Superman and Superman II, Ralph Breaks the Internet and Creed II observations. Enjoy!

BMFcast455 – Come Back Charleston Blue – Junkie With A Monkey

Come Back Charleston Blue (1972) is the sequel to 1970’s Cotton Comes to Harlem and it is terrific. Coffin Ed and Gravedigger Jones are back to solve another case.

The second half has us discussing Netflix things like Bird Box and The Night Comes For Us. Also, Office Space. Enjoy!

BMFcast454 – Baby Needs a New Pair of Shoes – Nineteen Fifty Sex

Baby Needs a New Pair of Shoes (1974) aka Jive Turkey is about the “numbers game” somewhere in the midwest circa 1956. One group runs it, another wants to take it over, mild chaos ensues. The slice of life scenes work best, but overall is it worth a watch?

The second half is all comics related stuff this week, as we have some thoughts about Once Upon a Deadpool, Watchmen, Batman: Gotham Knight and 1978’s Superman. Enjoy!

BMFcast453 – Black Eye – Creature From the Black Legume

Black Eye (1974) is the first entry in our 8th Annual Blaxploitation History Month! It’s a meandering detective story saved by Fred Williamson’s natural charisma and some really bizarre 70s-ness.

In the second half we’ve got thoughts on Polar, John Wick Chapters 1 and 2, Superman Doomsday and Justice League: New Frontier. Enjoy!

BMFcast445 – Original Gangstas – Turn Your Head And Coffy

Original Gangstas (1996) is how we’re celebrating Blaxploitation Friday this year! This 20 year old film is a supposedly a celebration of a genre from 20 years earlier but is more in line with the 90s gangs genre instead of the Blaxploitation stuff we know and love. But all your favorites are here (although some only for a scene or two) and there’s something to be said for that.

In the second half, Chuck has a recommendation-palooza and he says you should watch the following 2018 releases: Acts of Violence, Bent, Anon, Skyscraper, The Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Solo: A Star Wars Story. All good! All Chuck approved!

BMFcast420 – Vanity’s Hot DIVX

The Last Dragon (1985) is why we do this podcast. It’s the tale of a young man from Harlem who gets mixed up with an insane record producer, an equally insane kung fu master, and Vanity. Hijinks ensue, in the best possible way.

After an exhaustive first half, Maki has some quick takes on Ready Player One (2018) and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (2016) and then Chuck plows through The Post (2017), Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), Murder on the Orient Express (2017) and I, Tonya (2017). Enjoy!
