BMFcast Extra 021 – 36th Chamber of Shaolin

Time for another one of the “big guns”. The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (aka Master Killer) is one of the Shaw Brothers’ biggest hits. When you watch it, you can see why. Harlo and Chuck are here to break down all the action.

BMFcast Extra 020 – Dirty Ho

Yes, it has an unfortunately misleading title… unfortunate because otherwise this movie is AWESOME. Billed as a comedy, this one has some of the best fight scenes we’ve ever witnessed. Pure martial arts genius at work in this one. Come listen to us rave about it.

BMFcast Extra 019 – Five Deadly Venoms

We needed a baseline for our Shaw Brothers project, so we dipped a couple years into the past to check out one of the more famous of the studio’s martial arts flicks, 1978’s Five Deadly Venoms. Enjoy!

BMFcast Extra 018 – Two Champions of Shaolin

Next up in our path through the world of the Shaw Brothers is 1980’s TWO CHAMPIONS OF SHAOLIN, which features The Venoms, a squad of martial arts masters. Probably wasn’t the one of theirs we should have started with, but here we are.

Like last week’s film, this one is available on Amazon Prime. And if you want to find more Shaw Brothers movies online, check out www.shawbrothersuniverse.com for links to every place you can legally watch these things. It’s a very helpful site!

BMFcast365 – Firepower – The Mediocre Warrior

Firepower (1993) brings back BMFcast alums Gary Daniels and Chad McQueen as cops from the distant future of 2007, on the hunt for The Swordsman (played by Jim Hellwig aka The Ultimate Warrior) and a cure for AIDS. To find both they’ll need to enter an underground martial arts tournament. As you do. This year’s Road To Wrestlemania is officially here, and we’re on it.

After the break it’s a packed second half with discussion of Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet (2017), Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000), and Aaron Sorkin’s Charlie Wilson’s War (2007) and Malice (1993). We also discuss the many great roles of Bill Paxton before taking a boatload of e-mails and voicemails. Enjoy!

BMFcast362 – That Man Bolt – Hakuna Kumada

That Man Bolt (1973) has Fred Williamson as Jefferson Bolt, a smooth-talking international courier who gets tied up in a convoluted scheme involving a million-dollar briefcase, corrupt casino bosses, and ninja assassins. How many Jox will we award this Blaxploitation History Month entry?

In the second half, Maki talks about Jason Bourne (2016), Cop Out (2010), and We’re The Millers (2013) before we dive into a fresh round of listener correspondence. Enjoy!

BMFcast360 – Rage – Glass Dismissed

Rage (1995) isn’t Gary Daniels’ first BMFcast movie, but it’s definitely his first as the lead. (Spoiler: Also the best. So far.) He’s an unassuming second grade teacher who gets caught up in a government experiment gone wrong and must now battle his way to freedom, while murdering and/or defenestrating lots and lots and LOTS of bad guys.

In the second half Harlo reviews Passengers (2016) and the Mexican movie theater experience, Chuck and Maki discuss why Hail, Caesar! (2016) is one of the Coens’ lesser works, Maki sees a musical (The Book of Mormon) and we even have time for a listener e-mail. Enjoy!

BMFcast352 – The Lost Empire – Laservoir Tip

The Lost Empire (1985) is the debut movie of Jim Wynorski. A team of martial arts knowin’ women enter an underground tournament on a secret island in order to locate a jewel that will be used to power a doomsday device. Or something? We expected lots of jokes and nudity, which we got. Was it enough?

Second half is a random grab bag of movies with The Accountant (2016), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1994). Harlo also discusses the documentary Lucha Mexico (2016) before we take some listener e-mails. Enjoy!

BMFcast346 – Blood Warriors – Blood Bore-iors

bmf-ep346-slider

Blood Warriors (1993) continues Bloodtober with the return of decorated BMFcast alums Sam Firstenberg and David Bradley! Wes is a con who gets bailed out by his old marine buddy Keith from Jakarta. After Keith’s death, Wes must battle a drug cartel, all while fending off advances from Karen, Keith’s sister. From there it takes some odd turns. It’s a random one, for sure.

Second half Maki talks about The Thing (2011) before we get into a new batch of listener correspondence. Enjoy!

BMFcast345 – Bloodfist – Nobody Wants Baby In Their Corner

bmf-ep345-slider

Bloodfist (1989) begins Bloodtober, after a weeklong Hurricane Matthew related delay. Don “The Dragon” Wilson makes his BMFcast debut, searching for his brother’s murderer with a little help from a guy named Baby, a fight against Billy Blanks and one really messed up mango.

After the break we discuss the incredibly influential original Westworld, The Conjuring series, found footage movies, the genius of John Carpenter’s The Thing, Netflix’s Luke Cage, and even find time for listener e-mails. Enjoy!
