BMFcast444 – Night of the Kickfighters – Gunchucks

Night of the Kickfighters (1988?) is another one of those baffling motion pictures made by people you’ve never heard of and featuring Adam West in a small role. An elite squad of footpunchers bands together to rescue the daughter of a man who’s made a death ray for the government. Typical Tuesday.

In the second half we quickly discuss Hotel Artemis (2018) and Johnny English (2003). Enjoy!

BMFcast429 – Best of the Best – Best They Could Do

Best of the Best (1989) features several Oscar contenders attempting to give Oscar-worthy performances in this Rocky IV “tribute” about an American karate kwan do arts team headed by Eric Roberts and coached by James Earl Jones battling the evil Koreans.

In the second half, Harlo gushes over A Quiet Place and the second season of GLOW, Chuck plays with dolls and talks The Toys That Made Us, and Maki has an Archer / Atlanta check in. Enjoy!

BMFcast420 – Vanity’s Hot DIVX

The Last Dragon (1985) is why we do this podcast. It’s the tale of a young man from Harlem who gets mixed up with an insane record producer, an equally insane kung fu master, and Vanity. Hijinks ensue, in the best possible way.

After an exhaustive first half, Maki has some quick takes on Ready Player One (2018) and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (2016) and then Chuck plows through The Post (2017), Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), Murder on the Orient Express (2017) and I, Tonya (2017). Enjoy!

BMFcast416 – Hologram Man – Glitch Slap

Hologram Man (1995) is the tale of a criminal mastermind who is converted into a hologram, locked up in hologram prison, who then escapes. The only man who can track him down is the man who put him there: a cop named Decoda. This PM Entertainment joint is willing to sacrifice the lives of many a stuntman and decommissioned police car in pursuit of our entertainment. Spoiler: it pays off.

After the break Chuck somehow avoided spoilers and is rewarded with a fresh viewing of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, while Harlo catches up on FX’s Atlanta and we sing the praises of Darius. Darius forever, y’all.

BMFcast Extra 069 – Disciples of the 36th Chamber

Disciples of the 36th Chamber (1985) is our one week only return to the Shaw Brothers universe in honor of Chinese New Year. Gordon Liu is back as monk San Te who tried to school a young troublemaker. Kung fu ensues.

BMFcast412 – Hot Potato – Crab Ran-goons

Hot Potato (1976) is a quasi-sequel to Black Belt Jones (1974), a Blaxploitation History Month classic. Jim Kelly returns and heads to Thailand to rescue a kidnapped senator’s daughter. Unfortunately he brought help with him this time, in the form of Rhino and Johnny Chicago. Will attempts at comedy sink this one into Bags territory, or will the martial arts gain it Jox?

After the break we all discuss Thor Ragnarok (2017) in preparation for Black Panther (2018), as well as BJ wrapping up his Marvel catch-up before we take some listener e-mails.

BMFcast400 – Ninja III The Domination – Clamaydia

Ninja III The Domination (1984) is an oft-requested Sam Firstenberg/Cannon classic. A mysterious ninja goes on a rampage before succumbing to his wounds, but not before possessing an aerobics instructor who continues the murders. Sho Kosugi is also there to stop the carnage. Yes, this movie is INSANE.

After the break we take a metric ton of listener correspondence to celebrate 400 episodes, but not before Harlo discusses IT (2017) and Thor Ragnarok (2017), Chuck feels Netflix’s Stranger Things 2 isn’t as good as the first season, and BJ discovers just how much he loves Little Shop of Horrors (1986).

BMFcast383 – The Quest – Orson Welles’ Orphan Vision

The Quest (1996) is our farewell tribute to Sir Roger Moore. He’s a buccaneer who captures Jean Claude Van-Damme at sea and eventually enters him into a deadly fighting tournament in order to win a giant golden dragon. Oh and JCVD directed the film as well.

The second half is filled to the brim with movies we watched over the 4th of July break. Harlo’s got Kong: Skull Island and Life, Chuck hit the Redbox jackpot with The Founder, CHIPs, Passengers, The Lego Batman Movie, Fist Fight, and Patriots Day and then Harlo and BJ tag team the Netflix series GLOW. Enjoy!

BMFcast381 – College Kickboxers – The Chipparoo

College Kickboxers (1991) has our intrepid hero, college freshman James, testing his martial arts skills against his roommate Mark, his Sifu Wing, and a gang of supremely racist dudes named the White Tigers. Will our good guys win and save the dojo (aka rec center?) What do you think?

After the break Maki continues his magical journey with Alfonso Cuaron’s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) and a listener e-mail about Beauty and the Beast (2017) sparks discussion of remakes and risk aversion in modern Hollywood. Enjoy!

BMFcast Extra 030 – Master of the Flying Guillotine

It’s our martial arts season finale as we finally get to the movie we’ve mentioned several times during this theme, 1976’s MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE. It’s a sequel to ONE ARMED BOXER and has some serious issues. Enjoy!
