BMFcast Extra 029 – One Armed Boxer

To ease ourselves back into the Shaw Brothers universe we make a quick detour into Golden Harvest territory to cover 1972’s ONE ARMED BOXER, the movie that will then allow us to watch MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE.

BMFcast377 – City Hunter – Defeneskate

City Hunter (1993) concludes AniMAY with Jackie Chan starring in a live-action adaptation of the popular manga. Hunter is tracking down a newspaper magnate’s runaway daughter on a luxury cruise populated by secret agent ladies, card-throwing assassins, and a group of terrorists led by Richard Norton and Gary Daniels. It’s tough to properly describe the zaniness of this movie, but trust us, it’s ZANY.

In the second half, Maki and Harlo watch Alien Covenant (2017) and have lots of thoughts about it. Chuck and Maki also discuss Wolverine’s last hurrah as Logan (2017). Enjoy!

BMFcast Extra 028 – Redline and Biker Boyz

We pumped the brakes and take a detour from our Shaw Brothers-ing to celebrate Fate of the Furious week with two supposed knockoffs: 2007’s Redline and 2003’s Biker Boyz. We learn a lot along the way.

BMFcast 376 – Fist of the North Star – Big Lots Guillotine

Fist of the North Star (1995) continues AniMAY, with a live-action adaptation of the popular anime/manga. With Gary Daniels, Malcolm McDowell, Chris Penn, Costas Mandylor and Clint Howard supplying lots of kicking, head-exploding and general post-apocalypticness, does it work for us?

After the break we discuss Prometheus (2012) in preparation for Alien Covenant (2017), and Chuck makes an ill-advised visit to The Love Guru (2008) before we take some listener correspondence. Enjoy!

BMFcast Extra 027 – Executioners From Shaolin

The Shaolin temple gets wrecked, its master is killed, and its students are sent packing. Lots of time passes. People put on plays. They get married. Kids are produced. Every so often, revenge is attempted.

BMFcast375 – Dragonball Evolution – Urn-ie Hudson

Dragonball Evolution (2009) continues AniMAY! It’a a live action (very loose) adaptation of the long-running manga and anime series. Can Chow Yun-Fat, Emmy Rossum, Ernie Hudson, and James Marsters overcome Justin Chatwin being cast as Goku? Or does it not matter because it just turns into a CG mess anyway?

In the second half Harlo gives his impressions of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 (2017), Chuck revisits Broken Arrow (1996) and the documentary Chuck Norris Vs Communism (2015), and BJ marathons Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet (2017) and weighs in on Kung Fury (2015). All this, plus listener correspondence, too! Enjoy!

BMFcast Extra 026 – My Young Auntie

A “modern” setting and the potential for lady kung fu were what lured us into this Shaw Brothers effort, which might have been a mistake. However, one of us still thinks the last 30 minutes of the movie are fantastic. Press play and find out who.

BMFcast374 – Un Gallo con Muchos Huevos – KUFC

Un Gallo con Muchos Huevos (2015) aka Huevos: Little Rooster’s Egg-cellent Adventure marks the return of AniMAY! A young rooster named Toto must fight to save his owner’s farm. Literally. As in cock-fighting. At least it’s more like boxing, with all the requisite montages and fights one would expect. Is this Spanish-language 3D animated adventure our new AniMAY champ?

In the second half, Chuck discusses the Hunger Games series (2012-2015), Maki talks Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Office Space (1999), and BJ visits the non-Taco-Bell version of Demolition Man (1993) and the lunacy of Tank Girl (1995). Enjoy!

BMFcast Extra 025 – The Flag of Iron

The Venom Mob returns in this tale of two warring factions who go to extreme lengths to control their local gambling and prostitution rackets. Also, 10 themed assassins and javelin flags!
