  1. Scott says:

I’m not good at pitching movies, but based on your past Shaw retrospective, you might want to check out Flag of Iron (1980). Unique in it’s use of “Flag Fu.”

  2. Straight Out of Tijuana says:

Many years ago, I saw this movie in which this guy learns kung fu while building up a bamboo wall around a Shaolin temple. I did not remember its name, which is moot, since the title was in Spanish, and would not match either the English or a literal translation of the original title. All I remembered was that it had ‘Shaolin’ on the title… Do you know how many films do this?

Anyway, early Internet research of HK film was difficult. Even now, there are still few good HK film guides resources (There are some good beginner books, but Videohound guide is probably the most comprehensive, though it’s still difficult if used to identify films you vaguely remember.)

After some research I came up with this film that sounded very much like it. I watched it and after a few minutes I knew it wasn’t my film, even if it did scratch that same itch.
That film was 36th Chamber… I kinda stopped searching there. Had I only seeked out its sequel I woulda found out what I was looking for.

Nowadays things are easier. One can find most anything, even rare films are streamed for free.
