BMFcast142 – Life is Cheap in Thailand

By

BKO: Bangkok Knockout (2010) is a film made by and starring stunt people. Sound familiar? We love this genre and this film takes it to new heights.

Second half we double dip on Bond Marathon as we review A View to a Kill in the official sense and Never Say Never Again in the unofficial sense. Plus some talk of Dragon*Con 2012 and BJ’s Dusty Netflix Disc Queue comes through with a copy of Beowulf.  Enjoy!

This movie is on Netflix Instant. I skimmed through it. YES. That will be watched this week.

Never Say Never Again… some cool parts but overall it’s crap. That bike chase involving the French cars and the late 70’s Camaro was sweet. Other than that, I really don’t like it at all. It’s my least favorite of all the Bonds I’ve seen (I’ve avoided the 60’s Casino Royale and likely always will); even A View To A Kill is better.

While I don’t really hate it like some people do, I am not in love with it like Chuck is. It’s not even that I’ve listened to the common opinion of it. Like I said with NSNA, some cool parts but here, Moore is just too old, it doesn’t seem like a Bond movie at times (that firetruck chase seems like something from a Hal Needham movie, to steal a comment I’ve heard from elsewhere), and Roberts is annoying. If only Walken and his plot would have been used for something better, as it was ahead of its time.

I hadn’t listened to this before our trip and I totally made everyone in the car listen to it on the way back. They definitely enjoyed it. I’ll be curious to see if they start listening regularly or not.

I watched BKO tonight, and YES. Sure, the story was crap (and those non English-speaking people trying to speak English… painful; Mark from Miami Connection was better than them!) but the action was incredible. I also strongly disliked Thai Elton John. If only the villain deaths would have been better… still, I am thankful it is on Instant as it made it so easy for me to see.
